March 1, 2011

It's the anniversary of Dr. Seuss' birthday, and we'll be celebrating it by including his books into our preschool all week long.  Dr. Seuss is the master of rhyme, even if he has to make up a word, so we playing Cat in the Hat rhyming hat.

Estimating, sorting, counting and writing

How many conversation hearts does it take to fill up a big heart?  How many hearts of each color do you have?  These are some of the math questions we asked and answered during our Valentine's Day party.  Estimating, sorting and one-to-one correspondence counting are important skills we learn during our preschool years.  There are many ways to make these math skills fun and exciting to learn.  We had an amazing amount of fun finding out the answers to these questions.
Oh and by the way, we fit 22 hearts into the big heart.
Hailey guessed 17 hearts would fit into her heart.  Pretty good estimate!

First you sort (classify), then you count, then you write.

Valentine's Bingo

It may be a day for a party, but we like to learn things while we're playing.  We learn to recognize letters, use our listening skills, and help each other when we can't fine the right letter.  We're also using small motor skills as we carefully place the hearts on the correct letters.
